How to download and install Audacity.

Audacity® is free, open source, cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing. Audacity is not considered a DAW. The biggest concern I have with this program is that it can not use the ASIO file. This means that you must go through your operating systems sound card to record your audio. At this time I still can not achieve multi-track recording with this software.

Audacity is great for recording Podcast if you are a single host. It is also great for recording for Librivox or Learning Ally. Audacity IS NOT considered a DAW. This short video shows how to download and install Audacity.

A plug-in is a very small program that acts like a piece of analog gear. Before digital recording was possible, everything ran through a analog chain. Your mic ran into a pre-amp, then ran into a audio compressor, then into a EQ, then into a reel to reel tape recorder, etc, etc. With digital recording, you can now have a audio chain using these small programs that emulate analog gear, called plug-ins. Some plug-ins cost hundreds of dollars and some can only be purchased as a bundled set, costing thousands of dollars.
