Hi. This is my self-introduction. You'll find I'm much more pleasant than my moniker.

I'm not exactly a newbie at home recording, but still I suspect I can learn new things in these forums. Like how to record for ACX, which I've never done.

I'm a retired rock jock, having worked at a number of West Coast radio stations in the U. S. I was production director at one station, and I also did TV commercial voiceovers. I'm starting to get into podcasting now, which is a fun hobby, and have started narrating audiobooks as a LibriVox volunteer. I'm an excellent lyricist, I'm a decent songwriter, and I've been a beginning guitar player for way too long.

This forum software has me beat. I can't figure out how to write a profile for my account, and the FAQ's don't appear to offer any help. Anybody know how to do that?

I'm in the Pacific Northwest (of America) near Portland, Oregon. I grew up in San Diego, California.

I look forward to meeting some interesting people here, to learning new stuff, and to helping others when circumstances offer the opportunity.

Peter

Good morning Peter and welcome! Whether it is podcasting or narration, it is pretty much the same except for the different exporting/streaming specs. Recording digital audio has a few basic rules that will apply to anything that is being recorded. Your background should help get you 90% of the way there.

If I remember right, you really cannot fill in a lot of information till your first post has been approved. You should be able to add your info now that you have made your first post. I will check your permissions after I make this post.

Your advice is welcomed and I/we look forward to interacting with you as we build our online relationship. The video below may shed some light on how to add your information. If it does not, just let me know. Dana.

Hi! I'm from LibriVox, too!

Dana,

Thanks for the video, but my profile looks nothing like yours in the video, and I still can't edit it. I don't have fields for occupation and interests. For some reason I'm locked out and can't edit it. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the nice welcome.

Peter

Story Girl,

Howdy!

It was one of your links on LibriVox that brought me here. Thanks for letting me know about Dana's site.

On LibriVox I'm PeterBlock.

Dana,

I figured it out. I have to go in through the "Control Panel" item under my username. Using the "Profile" item in that menu doesn't give me the chance to edit it.

Problem solved.

Thanks.

Cool! I did the video for LibriVox when they upgraded their phpbb forum software. I forgot that they did not add the same features I did with this forum. We both use the same phpbb software. I just use a few more plugins then they do. I guess I should make a new video that deals with this forum. Anyway, I am glad you figured it out! :banana-guitar:

Dana,

I think there's a bug in the Profile Edit subroutine. When I try to add "facebook.com/thatpeterblock" as my Facebook page (without the quotes, of course), it gives me an error message saying "Invalid characters in Facebook." Same thing when I substitute "http://facebook.com/thatpeterblock". Unless there's some trick I'm unaware of.

I figure you want bug reports when the occasion comes up.

Peter

Good morning Peter. I have a forum set up for bug reports. It is listed here. When you add your FB page to your profile, just add "thatpeterblock" without the (""). Make sure you save your profile after you make the changes. If you scrub to 2:31 secs on the video posted above, it shows you how to do this. :laughing-rollingyellow:
